You know, while we're at it, do you know why they hired Rowberry as a replacement in '65 in the first place? Because he 'looked' like Alan Price. Hah. Haha. Since when does Alan Price look like a mean-tempered, greasy-haired ulcer like that?

Anyway, this is a remarkable number. I'm pretty sure the Animals played that song during their early venues in Newcastle before going down to London to score chart hits. They must have decided to bring this performance out into the big old open for the TV shows. It's a nice tape- one can see how they're enjoying themselves while playing 'Worksong'. :)

Oh, Dave Rowberry wasn't so bad. He was a talented keyboardist, and apparently a decent fellow. And a Geordie, so he fit right in!

Strange... you know what? I think sources concerning that guy had varied opinions about him, because that's a far cry from what I read. I guess some people didn't mind the replacement and others couldn't stand it. Citing Chas Chandler, he was 'a pain in the beck'; and I read that someplace else as well. Oh well, when it comes to replacements critics can never make up their minds.

    Boy, am I thirsty...!

At one point (1978) Rowberry was under consideration to join the Kinks. They knew him because for a while he had played with the Mike Cotton Sound, whose horn section did a lot of work with the Kinks in the 70s. According to my book on the Kinks, Rowberry "is a very good friend of the band, but is politely passed over because of his laidback personal style."

Aaah, maybe that's what Chas didn't like about him. He must have interpretated that in a certin manner- but still, I can't remember quite where I saw it- but Rowberry was making a face on the picture that belongs only to a nasty horse. I'll have to meditate on that one.
