I've been googling like mad Holly - what's going wrong?

What are you actually typing in the google bar?

    I've tried "Alan Price Forum"
    "Alan Price Fans"
    "Alan Price"
"alanpricefansforum" does come up but if we want others to
find us they won't be googling the whole name will they?

Holly, I've just found out from a techie-guy that having a banner right across the top of the page blocks the
Google Search Engine so I have reverted to a very similar style to the one we had before using words on
half the page which the search engines are more likely to pick up. So much for all my hard work to set that banner up!

I do hope this makes a difference .

Please keep googling people and see if we can climb the ladder [IMG]

Too bad, after all your work on that banner!! :?

Well, it's on page 19 again. I'll go click on it another 5 or 6 times. The term that I Google is "Alan Price" because that seems to me to be what most curious fans would Google...

Sorry to see that banner heading has had to go
but agree if it blocks the search engines then
it's not helping people to find us.

    I'm googling and googling ;)

[IMG] Oh dear! how disappointing - but the search engine results take time to show
so perhaps it will be a week or two before we see a change for the better.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Holly.

    Keep googling peeps!

Well, that's good news. Still, most people use Google -- so KEEP ON GOOGLING, folks!

That is much better - we will keep googling.

I mostly use MSN search engine but have been 'googling'
lately to try and make some difference :p

Couldn't find it at all today. Someone told me that it helps to have "tags" on something, so it gets filed on various other searches like "British invasion," "Animals," etc. Darned if I know how that works, though.

Holly - it's going to be a few weeks before we see much improvement - so I read when I googled for information,
so it's just a case of keep googling and wait.... after all, I had that banner right across the top for 2 or 3 weeks (?)
not realising the search engines couldn't see past it so that was what made us drop right down.

Enquired some time ago about using meta-tags on this forum and was told it's not possible on phpBB. :(

Have we any techi-guys on the forum who can help re meta-tags??

We are still on page ONE of Ask.com today
    - can't find it on Google at the moment
but I will keep googling and checking.

    It's on page 83 today...I guess that's progress... :?

Still page 83...and only after I click the message at the end of the search asking me to repeat the search without "irrelevant" items omitted.

How can our site be considered "irrelevant" when so many other references are listed that don't have ANY relation to Alan Price -- listings for Steve Coogan because he once played the character Alan Partridge, for example...the logic of Google is very strange sometimes.

Like you I am amazed we are not higher in google ranks Holly.

I have been watching the counter at the bottom of the index page and
although we don't get many new members the numbers are gradually
creeping up so there must be quite a few people looking at the forum.

Perhaps those visitors are coming here through links and not through Google. Just think how many visitors we could get if we were on the first few Google pages!
