Lightbulb Who's a Lucky Boy? and what are your impressions?
Good evening everyone. Probably there was a thread about 2007 album Who's a Lucky Boy, but I don't remember where I saw it, so here's the new one.

I've been listening to the album for about 4 days now. At first I didn't like it. The style is different and it seemed to me not-AP at all. So electronic, synthetic...

But I made myself to listen to the half of the album and I'm on my way of liking it)))

Have you heard it? What do you feel about the album?

PS. For the time being, I like two songs there. O Sweet Cocaine and You Only Have One Life.

THX

Wait -- where did you get this album? I got one on line that was called O Lucky Man Too!! -- is that the same one? But neither of those songs are on it.

Could there possibly be an Alan Price album I don't have? If so, this is VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!

You can leave it all to me...

yeah it's the same. And there are songs like that) they are from AP's site with free downloading. there are 4 albums and this one is the third or the fourth. I don't think you should be overexcited, really smile Though I'm pretty sure the album's name is Who's a Lucky Boy (it's in the info to the songs)

lemme try to find the site.

Wow, I hadn't checked the site for a while. These songs are all different from the O Lucky Man Too!! that I downloaded there a few months ago. Got to download these too!! It's amazing how prolific Alan has been lately. I'd love to see him perform some of this new stuff, instead of just the old hits.

I'm glad you found something new smile a wonderful feeling.

It is said that the musical is of 2007. Is it on stage in Britain or in the USA? I cannot dream of it in here) don't think I can find even a DVD, though it could be very interesting to watch.

As I understood it is the story of a cocaine addict (which is evident even from the tytles). But I don't get all the words from the lyrics so I'm not pretty sure about what's happening in there %) So, I'll wait for the lyrics in the Net...

But that album definitely has rhythm and it is a bit faster than other ones. Well, to my mind. Pluses: you get to know Alan's music again; you realize that he is still productive which is totally great smile; Alan's art is constantly changing, or developing I may say which is also wonderful.

Minus: I am not yet adapted to the style of the album. yet. partially.

That's why I'm very interested in other fans' perception smile

Thank you

Hi Daria!
I understand you are a bit put off by the synthetic aspect (me too, especially after the luscious instrumentation in albums like BTY) but I think these are workshop versions - it's his laboratory, I believe. If these songs were to become commercial, I'm pretty sure we could expect more elaboration.
The most important thing is: they exist, he's still at work.
Hope you are keeping warm and happy,

bennyb

Hello, bennyb smile thank you for warm words because i'm still ill and it is still cold in here smile

definitely, the main thing about those songs is that they exist. You can't be more right.

Ireally start liking them smile It takes me about 2 or 3 times to listen to get the main words, so I'm in the process. And I also don't mind electronic sound, it was just unusual for the first time. Oh how I wish to watch the whole musical on stage... I'm pretty sure it's not ordinary one smile

Great thanks to mister Alan Price for making different music for so long. And also without him I wouldn't get acquainted with you gyus smile)

PS the pictures below are from the musical Who's a Lucky Boy smile Who can find the main character? ))

Well, the songs do sound theatrical -- a bit like the songs he wrote for the musical Andy Capp a few years ago. I also think, judging from those photos, that the production was probably a little surreal in style. Does anybody knows these Hogarth pictures, The Rake's Progress, that Alan says inspired the play? I have seen them (I think in the National Gallery in London) and they are definitely raucous and bawdy, sort of like the novel Tom Jones. These songs sound as if they would fit that style of story very well -- satiric and caustic and irreverent.

I like the songs -- they are brisk and lively and witty. It's true, the arrangements aren't as bluesy as Alan usually does (although Based On A True Story tended more towards jazz). He's such a versatile musician! But I liked these right away and will definitely listen to them a lot more.

You can leave it all to me...
