The Alan Price song in my head today
Just about every day there's an Alan Price song playing in my head -- if I just stop and listen I can pick up what I'm unconsciously singing over and over to myself. Today it seems to be "Look Over your Shoulder." This song is so witty and cynical-- one of my favorite verses is:

Hope springs eternal in a young man's breast
And he dreams of a better life ahead
Without that dream you are nothing nothing nothing.
You've got to find out for yourself that dream is de-ad
la la la la
De-aaad la la la la...

You can leave it all to me...

Alan Price song in my head today
color.gif The song in my head today is surprisingly not one of Alan's :!:

"..... I'm sitting here
sipping at my icecold beer
lazing on a sunny afternoon.
Help me
help me
help me sail away
you give me two good reasons why I ought to stay.
'Cos I love to live so pleasantly live this life of luxury:
lazing on a sunny afternoon...."

It must be because of a TV show I watched recently wink

Oh, yes, the Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon." Another favorite of mine.

Do you know Alan's song "Country Life"? (it's from Savaloy Dip, so fairly rare...). It's another excellent summer afternoon song.

The Alan Price song in my head today is, "Any Day Now (My Wild, Beautiful Bird)." I love the horn section on this one -- excellent Alan Price Set arrangement -- but mostly I love the raspy edge to Alan's voice when he's singing. It gives the song a note of desperation, which fits in perfectly with the lyrics. Not one of the songs Alan wrote himself, but a winner all the same.

Alan's cover of Bob Dylan's "To Ramona." I was listening to the radio the other day and heard Dylan's original version -- not anywhere near as good as Alan's!! biggrin

Agree with you Holly, but I do like Bob Dylan's songs.

I have been downloading lots onto my new MP3 player
(Alan's songs of course) and the one that sticks in my head today is -

'Don't call me on the telephone
Cos I can't see your face
Don't write a letter
Don't try to explain
We all make mistakes.............'

Which of course is Sweet P

Today I've been hearing "Frozen Moments" a lot.

Does anybody know -- is this from the Andy Capp musical? I don't find it on any of AP's studio albums...it just appeared as a track on an odd "greatest hits" album called Alan Price Archive. Whenever I see anything by Alan Price that I don't have I snap it up -- not that that happens very often. :?

Me too Holly, and it's surprising the odd one now and again that appears.

Can't say I've ever heard 'Frozen Moments' but then I have quite a lot of
albums that I have't got around to playing. I shall have a look through my collection. smile

:( The LP I bought on line recently called 'Morning Price'
has still not been delivered to me.
Seller sent 'Performing Price'
in error and said he would send the other one on........
that was 10 days ago and still waiting..........

Looked through my collection and yes, I have the Alan Price Archive CD. I have never listened to it - can't think why, especially as Alan has written on it - "To Jean, Love from Alan Price" color.gif

And ......
Look what I found when googling! so it is from Andy Capp!

...........................................................................................................

ANDY CAPP

Book by Trevor Peacock
Music by Alan Price
Lyrics by Alan Price and Trevor Peacock

First performed at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and subsequently at the Aldwych Theatre in 1982 with Tom Courtenay, Alan Price and Val McLane heading the cast.

- - - - - - - -

This exuberant musical, with a delightful score, conjures up the timeless dream world of work shy, beer-swilling Andy Capp, known the world over from Reg Smythe's cartoon strip in the Daily Mirror

The story is essentially a narrative setting an upcoming wedding (of Raquel and Elvis) against the ongoing fracas in Andy and Flo's household. But it is also a faithful evocation of the cartoon, full of mother-in-law jokes, drunken escapades, big-bosomed, mini-skirted women wielding rolling pins and paunchy, cloth-capped men stomping around in boots.

"Lively, free-spirited show" Daily Mail

"Alan Price's score is always enjoyable and in one number is superlative". City Limits

"Andy Capp: anecdotal, larky, fun." New Statesman

"An innocent, warm-hearted, gutsy frolic" - Daily Telegraph

The Cast: M11 F9. Extras may be used

My goodness, Jean, you are a great resource! And I'm thrilled to see that Alan actually appeared onstage in this show. I've been wondering whether or not he will appear in O Lucky Man when (if :? ) it ever gets to the West End. This gives me hope that he'll be on stage. Because really, who else could sing those songs properly? 8

I suppose there must be an Andy Capp cast recording around, but I've never been able to find it on any of the record searches I use.

The song I am listening to at the moment is 'I Have Tried' from the Archive CD - like it a lot - and to think I've had it for ages and never listened to it!

I have also googled for Andy Capp recording but not found anything.
Keep trying smile

Today I've got Imagination Sea from Alan's most recent LP, Based On A True Story, echoing in my brain. Hauntingly beautiful.

Yes, agree Jarrow Lass - Imagination Sea is lovely.

At the moment I am listening over and over and over to each track
on Liberty Album as I am typing the lyrics and there always seem to be a couple of words I can't quite hear.
Then I get the lyrics/songs stuck in my head for ages - love it though biggrin

Now logging off so that I can do some more!
