Hotels?
I never dared ask anyone on the forum if they knew about a cheap and good/ doesn't-have-to-be-good-as-long-as-it's-cheap hotel around London... I tried looking up myself and I couldn't find much of anything. Once again, I'm bad at Internet stuff; so my only trick left was to ask here. Excuse me.

ps: I noticed I really like to use the 'Any other subjects?' category. It must appeal to my subconscious or something.

I'm quite surprised that you are still having difficulty in looking up stuff on-line, especially as I see that you have been a member for some time now. However, each to his own!
I find that if you are going somewhere in particular, say a show, put in the name of the show and/or the venue and invariably there is a side display which will give such things as maps, nearest bus or train stations, plus hotels in the area.
I hope this will help.
I have only been using the computer for about a couple of years at the very most and have already booked all the necessary travel, plus shows and other items at least three times so far. Not much in the scheme of things, but quite a lot for yours truly!
All the best. EmmToyou

RE: Hotels?
bennyb and Celia, where did you stay when you went to the Bulls Head? Would you recommend it?

RE: Hotels?
We stayed at the Best Western on Chiswick Road. Friendly staff, complimentary continental breakfast. I had a quiet room, but Celia's was on the road which is very busy and at an important crossroads with traffic lights. Pleasant neighborhood (shops, restaurants, tube stations). You need a taxi to go to and from Bull's Head, though.

I'm going in April with my husband to see Alan again and we chose a hotel in the center of London because we want to go to museums, etc, but if I went back especially for a Bull's Head gig, I would try to find a hotel closer to the pub, especially since the immediate surroundings look lovely (Celia and I couldn't really judge because it was dark and cold but if you go on Google Earth you can see how green it is; besides, if Alan lives there, it must be nice!) .

Have a nice day, all of you!

RE: Hotels?
Best Western Chiswick is a good hotel as Bennyb says but it's not so near the Bulls Head. If you go on the Bull's Head website it said if the nearest hotel and it is 2,2 km of distance. But I think it's rather 2,2 MILES (and it's changes....). And to my opinion it's more than 2,2 miles. What do you think about it Bennyb ? it's seemed very very far from the Bulls Head ....

If you worry, feel bad and sad

... I wonder if Google pages differ from one machine to another? Anyway, let's leave it at that.
I guess I'll check out the hotel Benny and Célia are talking about- I'm figuring hotels like Best Westerns or Amarys etc. are cheaper than the ones run by independant owners.

Thank you, all smile

RE: Hotels?
Hmmm... on second thought, I wonder if it's a good idea to go. My health, morally and physically speaking, has been going from bad to worse for several months; I wonder if a trip would be a positive element this year?ohno

RE: Hotels?
Hi Lullaby. sorry if I seemed a bit short before, unfortunately that's just me!
However, I suffer from allsorts of aches and pains which I won't bore you with, but I find it really lifts you out of yourself to have a visit and/or a journey somewhere! I always book a hotel for the day before the event and stay an extra day after to rest for the next days journey.
Do make the effort, I'm sure you'll find it beneficial.
You only live once!

RE: Hotels?
It's not a matter of will, really... it's a matter of possibility. I've had to go to two medical appointments this week (and a first time visit to the osteopathologist yesterday duh ; the aftermath isn't fun!) and I've been given a paper from the rhumatologist saying I can't pursue in any sports activities for the next five months. If you count that, it's ten months without a run, which I'm always fond of; but now I can't go twenty feet without whining. Blabla, the life and times!

So if that's the case, will I be allowed to go on a trip to England even for three to four days? To be continued...

ps: 'If you count that, it's ten months without a run...' that doesn't mean I got fat, mind ^^
phew

I agree, a trip can be invigorating. It shouldn't require a lot of physical effort, either. I can't imagine your doctor wouldn't let you go!

RE: Hotels?
It also depends on the trip you're making! True, the idea isn't to run a marathon while I'm there, but she could always come up with a good excuse; 'too much extra stress that might have consequences on your recovery...' I can see it coming from here. Although we never know.

RE: Hotels?
I looked up the hotel you stayed in... it's way out of my league... sorry, can't afford one night there. public_html/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

Although, there is a friend who has a colleague (this is complicated, right?) who knows a family living in London who takes in French students etc. all the time; I think that might be easier and a little more promising.

ps: I just met the most interesting young lady today- I was helping out at the library checking books and classifying different magazines and newspapers that had come in.

Some students were passing their French oral exams, and one of them, who knew I was in the literary department, asked me if I could help her revise. I accepted and helped her get through a presentation of Rodolphe's letter in Flaubert's Madame Bovary. Well enough. She was very interested in this book and made very pertinent remarks on the characters' psychology.

After a small conversation we shared, out of curiosity I asked her what she was thinking of in terms of a career, she replied that she was thinking of becoming a psychologist in a jailhouse. The concept absolutely fascinated me and I ended up asking her a whole bunch of questions... who wouldn't? She's 14, and basically decided that that was what she wanted to do... when she told me what her vocation was, I thought to myself, 'What a precocious humanist!' I was so amazed and thrilled; it's quite inspiring, an encounter such as that one.
